Hey everybody I'm Steve Hill CEO of new hydrogen I just read an article in the San Jose Mercury News highlighting the shrinking number of consumer hydrogen refueling stations in California I saw a second report saying that Toyota admits that its Toyota marai fuel cell vehicle has quote not been successful if you take all of that at face value it seems like really bad news for hydrogen but I see this as all is progress we're learning that
Battery electric vehicles are really good for short trips we won't see people clamoring for hydrogen fuel cell consumer Vehicles unless the cost of to fill up with hydrogen is about equal to the price of gas fuel cell trucks and other big vehicles are a totally different story and let me explain why Long Haul trucks trains ships and airplanes are hard to power with just batteries the further you go the bigger the battery you need and the
Bigger the battery you need the he heavier it will get and heavier loads are inefficient and just cost extra money to transport that's why Toyota is now focusing more on hydrogen for commercial transportation I read also that separately that Nia a hydrogen truck startup has announced plans to start investing $1 billion to build out 50 hydrogen refueling stations um for their trucks all across North America in the next five years they're probably in strategic Trucking locations
As or Trucking routes tackling a commercial first approach is really The Right Move though getting renewable hydrogen infrastructure built out at scale for heavy Vehicles will promote Innovation Plus cost reductions over time things like refueling networks expanding as production methods progress adoption at that scale means cost will go down for personal vehicles eventually at new hydrogen we're completely focused on powering that kind of shift through big leaps in hydrogen production efficiency our unique thermal ThermoLoop technology
Being developed now with our sponsorship funding at UC Santa Barbara could dramatically lower costs especially by cutting electricity usage which drives most of the production expenses for clean hydrogen if things work out the way we hope we will unlock the world's cheapest green hydrogen globally for All Transport segments so let's be clear hydrogen is still headed for an important role powering sustainable Transportation consumer uses like personal cars will grow over time as renewable protection gets cheaper
With helpful policies and companies like ours moving the space forward Hydro is poised to deliver on its promise affordable clean energy to drive economies forward even while producing new jobs at new hydrogen we are laser focused and hot on the trail of major Innovation and hydrogen production technology I encourage anyone who's passionate about scaling clean energy to visit newhydrogen.com and join us in our mission to make green hydrogen a reality Thanks for watching
