If you've had your doubts about the future of the clean hydrogen economy, today's news might surprise you. Hydrogen is building momentum from regional aircraft and passenger trains to global supply chains, shipping, and all of it's been verified with fresh data from the IEA. Hi, I'm Steve Hill, CEO of NewHydrogen, with this week's top hydrogen news.

First up, hydrogen aviation is pushing ahead. Canadian company Conscious Aerospace is seeking funding to convert D-8 aircraft into hydrogen electric planes. The plan is to retrofit regional airliners with a 2 megigawatt powertrain that combines fuel cells and batteries, creating a platform that could carry 50 passengers while cutting emissions dramatically. Regional routes are a natural fit for hydrogen, and this project is one of many, proving that clean flight is closer than many think.

Next, Japan and Germany are teaming up on hydrogen supply chains. Toyota and Kawasaki are joining forces with partners in Germany to create a crossber hydrogen corridor. The goal is to secure steady imports and build infrastructure linking production, transport, and offtake. For Japan, which imports nearly all of its energy, this partnership is about ensuring supply. For Germany, it strengthens hydrogen's role as Europe's next big fuel. Together, it's a sign that companies are thinking globally about how hydrogen gets produced, moved, and delivered. We believe Thermaloop can produce the world's cheapest clean hydrogen, unlocking what Goldman Sachs has called a 12 trillion global market. Back in the United States, hydrogen has arrived on rails. In California's San Bernardino County, America's first hydrogen-powered passenger train has entered service.

Built by Swiss manufacturer Stadler, the ZEMU train runs on fuel cells that generate electricity on board, giving it a range of about 285 miles per refueling. The county expects it to carry more than a million passengers a year, replacing diesel-powered service with quieter zero emission travel. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom is putting big money into clean shipping. Nearly $500 million has been pledged to develop next generation marine technology with hydrogen-based fuels taking a central role.

The funding will support new vessels, port infrastructure, and demonstration projects aimed at decarbonizing one of the hardest to abate sectors. For an island nation where shipping is vital, hydrogen-based fuels are a practical pathway to cleaner trade and transport. And

Finally, the global view. The International Energy Agency released its 2025 global hydrogen review, showing that a pipeline of announced projects has grown to cover nearly every major sector from power and industry to aviation and heavy transport. The report also makes clear that cost remains the key challenge, noting that cheap, clean hydrogen is the single factor that will determine how quickly these projects move from announcement to reality.

Hydrogen is advancing on every front, aviation, rail, shipping, and global supply. But none of this innovation works without cheap, clean hydrogen.
