Imagine carrying a toothpaste tube in your backpack that can power a drone for hours. Hi, I'm Steve Hill, CEO of NewHydrogen, with this week's top hydrogen news. Researchers at Germany's Franhaer Institute have developed power paste, a magnesium hydidebased paste that releases hydrogen simply by adding water. No pressure tanks, no filling stations, just a cartridge you can carry, store, and deploy anywhere.
The energy density clocks in at about 1.6 kwatt hours per kilogram, which is roughly 10 times what you get from a lithium ion battery. They've already built and tested a portable 100 W generator and a stationary 1,00 W emergency unit. Potential applications are surprisingly broad from robots to drones, escooters to off-grid sensors.
And the materials, primarily magnesium, are abundant and low cost. Hydrogen storage may not have to mean a pressurized tank on a flatbed truck anymore. Speaking of field ready, hydrogen just keeps making headlines on the global defense stage. At the World Defense Show 2026 in Riyad, Hyundai RODM unveiled the Black Veil, a hydrogen fuel cellp powered unmanned ground platform. The military pitch is compelling.
Fuel cells are nearly silent, generate almost no heat signature, and offer extended operational endurance compared to batteries. In contested environments, those aren't nice to haves, they're mission requirements. Hyundai RODM, Hyundai's defense and rail subsidiary, just restructured this January to create a dedicated robotics and hydrogen division. Showcasing the black veil at an international defense exhibition is a signal that this technology has moved well beyond the prototype phase.
And then there's this. First Hydrogen Corporation just signed a binding letter of intent to take a 60% stake in Exodus Actuation Systems, a company that holds 25 issued patents on high performance actuators. Essentially the muscles that make robotic limbs move. At first glance, it's an unusual move. A clean hydrogen company planting its flag inside the humanoid robotic supply chain.
But look closer and you'll see it's a growing trend and perfect application for clean hydrogen. In fact, Morgan Stanley projects the humanoid robot market could reach $5 trillion by 2050. So whether or not that number is precise, the direction is clear and the energy question for those machines is very much open. Hydrogen companies are betting that question has a hydrogen answer.
