Why is Toyota drag racing hydrogen-powered semi-truckss in the desert? Hi, I'm Steve Hill, CEO of NewHydrogen, with this week's top hydrogen news. In the deserts of Arizona, Toyota has been testing hydrogen-powered heavyduty trucks, and they aren't doing it quietly. According to Popular Science, Toyota recently lined up hydrogen fuel cell trucks against traditional diesel versions in drag race style runs.

They weren't just showing off zero emissions. They were demonstrating impressive torque and performance. What Toyota is proving here is critical. Hydrogen behaves like a familiar fuel for heavy transport. The ability to refuel quickly and maintain long ranges without waiting hours for a battery to charge is a critical differentiator. This isn't a lab experiment. It's a global leader stress testing technology where diesel has ruled for decades.

Next, what do small modular reactors or SMRs have to do with hydrogen? SMRs are factory-built, scalable mini nuclear reactors designed to operate continuously with high reliability. The promise is so significant that Meta recently signed deals with three different companies to secure this kind of stable carbon-free energy. But here's the bonus most people miss. SMRs offer more than just electricity. They produce high temperature heat. That heat opens the door to far more efficient hydrogen production than electricity alone.
