Have you heard about the world's first hypersonic hydrogen jet or Ferrari's upside down engine? Hi everybody, I'm Steve Hill, CEO of NewHydrogen. With that and more in this week's hydrogen news commentary, here's what we know about the world's first hypersonic hydrogen jet. A European startup called Destinus is developing an experimental aircraft designed to fly at Mach 10 using liquid hydrogen. Mach 10 is almost 8,000 mph. At that speed, you could cross the Atlantic in under 30 minutes.
The company says hydrogen is the only viable fuel for extreme speeds because it burns clean, burns cold, and stores enormous energy per pound. It's still early, and the engineering challenges are massive, but it shows where hydrogen is headed. The future of high-speed flight may run on clean fuel. Next, what happens when quantum computing meets hydrogen drones? Ionic and Heaven Aerotch have partnered to integrate quantum technology into Heaven's hydrogen-powered drone platform. Now, we know Heaven well. We've interviewed their CEO and covered their work before, and they continue to push the boundaries of heavy lift drones. By adding quantum computing, the goal is smarter navigation, more efficient fuel usage, and fully autonomous longrange flight.
Hydrogen extends flight time. Quantum extends intelligence together. This is a glimpse of what advanced aerial robotics could look like very soon. Now, let's talk about Ferrari because this story made headlines for a reason. We just learned that Ferrari's new hydrogen combustion engine can run upside down. Not figuratively, literally upside down. The patent describes a hydrogen engine design that doesn't rely on traditional oil circulation.
Instead, it uses a sealed lubrication system that works at any angle, even during extreme track maneuvers. Ferrari is not replacing oil completely, but this approach allows the engine to operate under conditions that would choke a normal powertrain. Even better, it makes space for a hydrogen fuel cell under the hood.
