In this week's top hydrogen news, a robotic horse you can ride. The why behind another hydrogen passenger vehicle and the nuclear connection nobody's talking about. Hi, I'm Steve Hill, CEO of NewHydrogen. Let's get started. First up, Kawasaki just unveiled a hydrogen-powered robotic horse or wolf or maybe just motorcycle without wheels at the Osaka Kzai Expo.
And yeah, it's designed for riding. It's part demonstration, part imagination, part awesome, and completely serious when it comes to showcasing what Hydrogen can do. It's less about replacing real horses and more about challenging our assumptions of how hydrogen might shape new forms of mobility and interactive tech. Is it practical? Not really. But is it important? Absolutely. Because bold ideas, even the strange ones, are what push the hydrogen conversation forward.
Next, Hyundai just pulled the cover off its allnew Nexo hydrogen fuel cells SUV. And if you're surprised that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are still important to car manufacturers, you're not alone. We've reported here before on the anemic adoption of this tech worldwide. Until a solid refueling infrastructure is built and costs come down, nobody will care about the Nexo's sharper design, improved tech, and cleaner ride. What's mainly holding up the infrastructure?
Permitting and cost. Clean green hydrogen is just too expensive. And cheaper hydrogen made with methane defeats the whole purpose. It isn't clean. There are a couple more reasons why we keep seeing hydrogen fuel cell vehicles pop up as concepts. One is concept production lag. It takes time for a great idea to come to the public reveal, and the industry may have green lit this one a long time ago, but the more likely reason, foundational tech.
These fuel cell platforms aren't just for cars. They're the backbone for heavy-duty trucks, planes, ships, the real hydrogen workh horses. Hyundai has been at this for years. Passenger vehicles may not lead the way, but they're helping build the systems that will.
Finally, while all eyes are on who's in office and what they'll do about clean energy, something more powerful is already happening.
